Cuckoo Clock Antique Replica Story
In September 1850, the Grand Ducal Clockmaking Academy of Baden started a competition to create a new design for the classic Black Forest cuckoo clock.
Friedrich Eisenlohr wasn’t the most likely winner of this competition. He was an architect and mainly known for the construction of the typical “Bahnwärterhäusle”, the railroad-guard residence houses. For the best cuckoo clock design, he basically took the facade of his Bahnwärterhäusle and added a dial to it. That may sound too plain to make this design a winner, but probably it was this simplicity that convinced the jury in the end. Whatever the thoughts behind the jury’s decision may have been, Friedrich Eisenlohr’s design was chosen as the best cuckoo clock of the competition.
This traditional Black Forest Cuckoo Clock Antique Replica has never gone out of style and it is still high in demand today. Our manufacturer Hekas has created their own interpretation of the Bahnhäusleuhr by following the original design closely but loosening up the rather formal and severe layout by the addition of leaves and vines.
