Our Porcelain Doll Appenzeller Boy is a handsome boy from the Appenzell region in the Swiss Alps measuring 30 cm/11,8 inches including his metal stand that makes it easy to position him you can always see him best. His head and limbs are handmade of porcelain while the body is made of soft fabric and stuffed. Our porcelain doll’s handmade clothing is made from materials used for real traditional costumes.
Among the traditional costumes for men in Switzerland, the Appenzell “Sennentracht” certainly is the most colorful and renowned: the leather breeches are dyed in bright yellow and worn with a white linen shirt. To complete the outfit, the Appenzell man wears a red vest, white socks and black 18th century style buckled shoes. And no Appenzell man would leave the house without his wide-brimmed felt hat with the colorful ribbons. Not only the bright colors are unusual for men’s clothing but also the so-called “Sennenfetzen” – a big square kerchief that is folded into a triangle and wrapped around the hips. This traditional costume is really special and still proudly worn by the inhabitants of the Appenzell canton. Have also a look at our Appenzell girl!
