Porcelain dolls are not for playing, but they are a traditional gift from Germany that will grace everybody’s home. This Black Forest Porcelain Doll Black Forest Girl measures 30 cm/11,8 inches. While the doll’s head and limbs are made of porcelain, the body is soft and stuffed. Our porcelain doll’s handmade clothing is made from fabric used for real traditional costumes. She comes with a stable metal stand to keep her standing upright on your mantelpiece.
Porcelain Doll Black Forest Girl Costume
Wherever you travel in Germany, you will come across the iconic traditional costumes of different regions. Especially in the valleys of the Black Forest, these traditions are kept alive in the villages. The most peculiar part of the Black Forest costume certainly is the hat, the so-called “Bollenhut”, a straw hat with no less than 11 woollen balls (“Bollen”) assembled on top of it. Although this hat has become quite a symbol for the whole Black Forest, it was originally made and worn only in three little villages, Gutach, Kirnbach and Reichenbach. Unmarried ladies wear the red Bollenhut, once married, they wear a black Bollenhut – our porcelain doll is still looking for her Mr. Right. Along with the Bollenhut, a proper Black Forest girl wears a long black pleated skirt with a tight bodice and a white blouse with puff sleeves. To add a little color, girls like our porcelain doll love wearing colorful and embroidered aprons over their skirts.
